On September 14, the Boston Red Sox fired Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom, creating a huge hole in the baseball operations department.
Naturally, the team has been interviewing candidates for the position, and so far there haven’t been any announcements.
We do know, from a report that came up on Friday, that the team interviewed former San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler.
Now, thanks to Red Sox insider Chris Cotillo, we also know that former Miami Marlins GM Kim Ng did not interview with the team and actually declined the chance to do it.
“Sources with @Sean_McAdam: Kim Ng declined the chance to interview with the Red Sox,” Cotillo tweeted.
Ng is not the first one to reject an interview from the Red Sox: Philadelphia Phillies GM Sam Fuld, Los Angeles Dodgers GM Brandon Gomes, former Marlins GM and current MLB executive Michael Hill, former Texas Rangers GM (and current Tampa Bay Rays adviser) Jon Daniels, Minnesota Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey, Arizona Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen and assistant GM Amiel Sawdaye have also done it, per Cotillo.
Fans reacted to the news that Ng rejected a chance to interview with them.
Most of them were disappointed:
That sucks
I wanted Theo or Click or Ng or Hazen
Please don't hire Gabe Kapler

Nobody wants to work for this ownership group. I can't blame them.

Terrible. She is exactly what they need.

The reality is that many general manager candidates might feel that Bloom didn’t deserve to be fired, as he had built a very good farm system and managed to make the American League Championship Series in 2021.
He did have his bad moves and flaws, of course, but his dismissal was shocking for many.
Candidates might feel that the Red Sox won’t offer them security and stability, and they might not be wrong about that.
For Boston, the search continues.
