For years, the Philadelphia 76ers have made Joel Embiid the centerpiece of their project — or, may we say, process.
They waited for him until he was healthy enough to make his debut and then hung onto him throughout all the never-ending injuries.
They’ve also gone to great lengths to try and surround him with enough talent to find success in the playoffs, although their coaching has often left a lot to be desired.
Embiid has also struggled in the postseason more often than not, mostly because of all the injuries.
Even so, the Cameroonian big man is still one of the best players in the league, and as such, all he wants to do is win a championship.
Nonetheless, the fans had plenty to say when he recently said in an interview that he wants to win, whether it’s in Philadelphia or somewhere else (h/t NBA Retweet, via NBA Central).
Uh oh this is where it starts! ?

He’s been chasing that MVP trophy the last few years maybe we see him load manage most of the season so he doesn’t get bounced in the 2nd round like usual?

Needless to say, those comments will always fuel speculation of all sorts.
The Sixers would never give up on their franchise cornerstone and reigning MVP unless the haul in return is massive, especially with a guy like Daryl Morey calling the shots.
There have never been rumors of discontent between Embiid and the organization, but it’s not uncommon to see a star player’s patience run out.
This could be just another power move by a star trying to get some leverage and put some pressure on his team.
But it could also be a story worth following closely if the Sixers struggle early in the season under Nick Nurse.
