Dillon Brooks of the Memphis Grizzlies is probably regretting some of his past comments.
Just a few weeks ago, Brooks said that he was hoping to face off against the Los Angeles Lakers in the playoffs so he could eliminate them in the opening round.
Then, toward the beginning of their series with LA, Brooks said LeBron James was “old” and he would only respect him when he scored 40 points against him.
On Friday night, Brooks and his Grizzlies were pushed out of the opening round by the Lakers and beaten by 40 points.
Following the loss, Brooks ducked out of the locker room before the media was allowed to ask questions.
Sports writer Matthew Berry called Brooks out for this choice, saying, “He’ll cheap shot a guy in the groin, he’ll insult LeBron but when he gets blown out by 40 in an elimination game as a 2 seed? He runs scared. Embarrassing.”
The weakest of weak *%%#. Talks the talk but can’t walk the walk. And then won’t face the music. He’ll cheap shot a guy in the groin, he’ll insult LeBron but when he gets blown out by 40 in an elimination game as a 2 seed? He runs scared. Embarrassing. https://t.co/qlAK0ITvMl

Berry wasn’t the only one shaking his head over Brooks’ avoidance of the press.
In fact, nearly all of the reactions online were negative toward the Grizzlies star.
Some people said Brooks’ entire persona is similar to a WWE villain and that “the media should have never given him so much attention.”
He's a WWE heel. The media should have never given him so much attention in the first place.

Some who hardly even watch the NBA were still rooting for James and the Lakers over the Grizzlies because of Brooks’ comments and Ja Morant’s actions throughout the season.
“Didn’t they call themselves a dynasty last year?” they asked about the Grizzlies.
I’m not a lebron fan by any means. I don’t even watch basketball with how bad the pistons are (caught a few games this year because Ivey seems like a stud). But Brooks and Ja had me rooting for LA. Didn’t they call themselves a dynasty last year?

There are some fans who suggested that Brooks might not ever play in the NBA again.
They claim that he doesn’t provide much in the way of defense and is a “complete liability on offense” too.
Dillon Brooks may not play in the NBA again.
He's not THAT good on D, and is a complete liability on offense. Horrendous shooter.
Not exactly a recipe for NBA roster spot.

Josh Goldstein compared Brooks to another loud-mouthed NBA player from years past: Lance Stephenson.
Dillon Brooks is just a sorrier version of Lance Stephenson.

Brooks and his Grizzlies might bounce back from this disappointing postseason next year.
They could still end up winning a championship ring together.
But for now, he should prepare to hear a lot of blowback over the things he said – and the way he lost.
