Never had a free agent created as much frenzy as LeBron James did, not only in NBA history but ever.
James’ decision was so big that they literally aired a special on ESPN to announce it, which was something that rubbed countless people the wrong way.
His decision to ‘take his talents to South Beach’ turned him from hero to villain, with thousands of Cleveland Cavaliers fans cursing him out and even burning his jersey.
Notably, that program aired 14 years ago on this day, as shown by This Day in Sports on Twitter.

Needless to say, it didn’t take long before some fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on this matter.

All those angry fans burning his jersey were probably the loudest fans in 2016.

Like all free agents, James had every right to make the decision he felt was best for him.
James was ringless at the time, so having the opportunity to team up with two other superstars and finally get over the hump was clearly big for him.
Also, it’s not like people need convincing when it comes to moving to Miami, especially to be the King of the city.
James drew plenty of criticism for the way he handled this situation, but it turned out to be the best decision he could’ve made before heading back home to fulfill his promise of delivering an NBA championship to his hometown.
