The Detroit Pistons had one of their worst seasons ever last year.
They ended 2022-23 with a terrible 17-65 record, which was the worst in the entire league.
But just because they couldn’t win many games doesn’t mean fans aren’t still hopeful for Detroit’s future.
One of the reasons for their excitement is Cade Cunningham, who is celebrating his 22nd birthday on Monday.
The NBA wished Cunningham a great day on Twitter, and many other fans came out to show their support.

Many people hopped on Twitter so they could cheer for Cunningham as he turned 22.
Some even called him a new “point god.”

However, others questioned what he has done since joining the Pistons two seasons ago.
He’s done nothing since he’s been in Detroit.

It is true that his time on the court has been more limited than expected.
He has only played in a total of 76 games since the start of his rookie year.
Injuries have sadly kept him sidelined a lot.
But there are plenty of Pistons fans who think the best is yet to come for Cunningham.
“Breakout Season Loading,” one fan claimed.
HBD, Breakout Season Loading

During his first two years, the young guard has averaged 17.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.6 assists.
It is true that his Pistons have been in horrible shape for the last few years.
And their path ahead will remain rocky; they won’t be Finals contenders overnight.
But with a healthy Cunningham, some other support on the team, and a new coach, the Pistons could be slowly but surely turning things around.
Most people agree that when the Pistons are truly competitive again, Cunningham will be at the center of all their plans.
To many, he is clearly the future of the team.
