Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is getting close to breaking one of the NFL’s most significant records — Eric Dickerson’s single-season record of 2,105 rushing yards — as he is just 268 yards away with two games remaining.
Dickerson recently revealed his honest thoughts about Barkley possibly eclipsing his 40-year-old mark, set with the Los Angeles Rams.
“If he breaks it, he breaks it. Do I want him to break it? Absolutely not,” Dickerson said, via Around The NFL.

It’s nice to see the competitor in Dickerson is still alive and well, and he made sure to point out that the NFL regular season is now 17 games, so it’s not the same accomplishment to break this record as it used to be.
“I don’t pull no punches on that. But I’m not whining about it. He had 17 games to do it? Hey, football is football. That’s the way I look at it. If he’s fortunate to get over 2,000 yards and get the record, it’s a great record to have,” Dickerson said.
Dickerson achieved his record in 16 games in the 1984 season and gave credit to O.J. Simpson, who held the record of 2,003 yards and achieved that feat in only 14 games for the Buffalo Bills in the 1973 season.
Barkley has games remaining against the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, and it’s hard to believe that getting him past 2,105 yards isn’t a major priority for the Eagles.
Philadelphia might have nothing to play for in Week 18 if things fall a certain way, but it currently still has an outside shot at the No. 1 seed in the NFC, which could be enough to incentivize the team to get Barkley the record.
