The 2022 season came to an abrupt end on Sunday night for the New York Mets, as they lost in Game 3 of the NL Wild Card Series to the San Diego Padres.
After winning 101 games, the Mets bowed out in the first round and now have several questions to answer this offseason.
Several key players from the 2022 team will be free agents, including ace Jacob deGrom and closer Edwin Diaz.
Now, the speculation on where Diaz will ultimately end up begins.
Will the Mets keep him, or will he sign elsewhere?
Diaz commented on his free agency plans, saying that he hopes the Mets come to him quickly with a new contract offer, but that he’ll ultimately take what’s best for him and his family.

Diaz’s Free Agency Plans
It’s clear that Diaz wants to remain with the Mets.
There’s no doubt he enjoyed coming into games and shutting opponents down, and he also loved hearing the song “Narco” playing with the epic trumpet solo from New York’s own Timmy Trumpet.
Mets fans certainly got a kick out of that as well.
It would be weird for that to happen anywhere else but New York.
But there will certainly be plenty of teams that come calling for Diaz’s services.
He was once with the Seattle Mariners.
Perhaps they could make a play for him this offseason and bring him home.
The Mets certainly have the resources to try and keep Diaz in New York for a few more years.
The 29-year-old fireballer posted a 1.31 ERA in 61 appearances and converted 32 of his 35 save opportunities.
Diaz is soon to be a very rich man.
We’ll see if he stays with the Mets or ends up signing elsewhere.
