Damian Lillard’s decision to leave the Portland Trail Blazers has been the biggest talking point in NBA circles for most of the offseason.
And while we still haven’t had any major updates regarding his situation, it somehow feels like it’s just a matter of time before he gets what he wants and takes his talents to South Beach.
But his desire to leave has also prompted a debate about his career and his legacy, which is why Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade wanted to share his thoughts on the matter.
In his recent interview with Shannon Sharpe, No. 3 claimed that even if Lillard were to retire without a ring, people simply cannot take away everything he’s done on the court.
He stated that he’s not a selfish player; he just hasn’t had the kind of supporting cast and team around him that could help him actually pursue a championship (via Dru).
“I’m not saying [Dame] won’t get one…But if he walks away with no rings does that take away what we’ve watched Dame do? We know if he got the right team, he’s not selfish. But he hasn’t had the team that has allowed him at the right time to be better than these teams”@DwyaneWade pic.twitter.com/4kjYAos55f

Of course, some took this as the Heat legend giving his team a helping hand in terms of recruiting, but it’s not like Lillard needed any convincing to want to play for the Heat; that ship has sailed already.
Truth be told, Damian Lillard is one of the best players of his generation, and he would’ve found way more success if he had been put in a more favorable situation throughout the course of his career.
Small-market teams don’t get the same recognition and attention as others, which is why some still believe he’s overrated.
But make no mistake, Lillard is a hooper.
