Sunday gave the team yet another chance to celebrate Wade, who is one of the most important players in Heat history.
During his triumphant 15 seasons in Miami, Wade averaged 22.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.6 assists.
He helped the team win three championships and also earned 13 All-Star appearances and was named the 2008-09 scoring champion.
Wade also leads the Heat in points, assists, steals, and games and minutes played.
There is no doubt that he will go down in Heat history.
All of this led to his entry into the Basketball Hall of Fame a few months ago.
On Sunday, Wade received some special news.
Pat Riley informed everyone that the team was going to build a statue in Wade’s honor next season.
“Dwyane’s legacy is a towering one not only for the Miami Heat but for Miami-Wade county. I can’t think of a better way to honor him than by memorializing that legacy,” Riley said, according to ESPN.
Wade was with the team when they were written off by many NBA fans and saw the franchise transform into a juggernaut of the league.
He feels that he did it all with and for the fans and used Sunday night as an opportunity to give them some love.
