One of the biggest reasons why the Golden State Warriors have found this much success is because of their chemistry, and not just on the court.
Most of their core players have always taken a “team-first” approach, from Andre Iguodala agreeing to come off the bench all the way to Stephen Curry giving up shots so Kevin Durant could play there.
But among all the strong characters and great players that have been a part of the team over the past decade or so, Draymond Green believes Kevon Looney is the ultimate unsung hero.
In a recent appearance on Podcast P, the former Defensive Player of the Year called his fellow big man “the most professional player and person he’s ever played with.”
Looney’s game might not make the highlight reel, but it sure helps win basketball games.
He’ll get everything out of the dirt, doing the dirty and not-so-sexy work on a nightly basis.
Looney will set hard screens, rebound on both ends of the floor, get some stops against some elite players, and then get an occasional bucket.
No complaints, no questions asked.
He’s obviously not Andrew Bogut or the kind of star big man the Warriors have been after for quite a while now, but he was huge in that NBA Finals series vs. the Boston Celtics, and he also manhandled Domantas Sabonis in the playoffs last season.
Looney’s numbers might not be Hall-of-Fame-worthy but he’s the kind of player all coaches and teammates would fight for.
