The New England Patriots want to take a leap this season, and they know that plenty of that will have to do with their offense.
That’s why Demario Douglas might be in for a breakout year.
At least, that’s how Drake Maye feels.
Talking to Kay Adams, the second-year quarterback raved about his slot receiver’s shiftiness (via Up & Adams):
“You can’t guard [Demario Douglas] in a phone booth. He’s gonna make things happen with the ball in his hands. He’s tough to tackle, and I think the big thing with Pop is he’s lining up right, he’s running the right routes. Going into year three for him, so I’m excited to keep getting him involved, ” Maye said.

Douglas is entering his third season in the league, and while his numbers haven’t been that impressive so far, he’s shown flashes of strong play.
Now, Josh McDaniels will look to add him to the list of great slot receivers he’s coached.
He might not be Julian Edelman, but he can certainly hold his own.
Douglas has turned some heads during training camp.
He entered this season leading all players in receptions (9) through five days of camp, and it looks like he’ll sit atop Maye’s favorite targets alongside Stefon Diggs.
The 24-year-old out of Liberty has hauled in 115 receptions for 1,182 yards and three touchdowns since entering the league as a sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
He led the team in targets and receiving yards and was tied for the most receiving yards and receiving touchdowns last season, showing early glimpses of his chemistry with Maye.
The Patriots are striving to return to postseason contention.
Their roster looks more well-rounded ahead of this campaign, and with Mike Vrabel leading the way, they’re expected to be one of the most improved teams in all of football this season.
