The New York Giants will end the 2024 NFL season as one of the worst teams in the league and have a slight chance of landing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Giants cost themselves a sure-fire chance at the top pick with their Week 17 win against the Indianapolis Colts, but head coach Brian Daboll likely wasn’t focused on that.
For months, there has been speculation that Daboll would be let go as the team disappointed throughout the regular season.
Not only did Daboll fail to set up quarterback Daniel Jones for success, but the rest of the offense was mostly dismal as well.
Though the personnel wasn’t ideal, it also didn’t paint Daboll in a positive light as the Giants often looked like they were just going through the motions on game day.
Now, they reportedly are ready to make a major change.
“The chatter continues to be that Joe Schoen will remain the Giants’ general manager while Brian Daboll will be let go. Owner John Mara is expected to make the final call very soon,” Dianna Russini of The Athletic wrote.
It could be the best outcome for both sides, as Daboll has no shot of competing with the Giants in the short term while the organization will get to enter the offseason with a clean slate.
Armed with a high draft pick and other assets, like talented wide receiver Malik Nabers, New York can begin its rebuild and hopefully get back to contention again.
