The New York Jets need to make some major moves.
First, they need to hire a general manager to handle their roster.
Then, they need to take care of their head coaching vacancy.
Notably, they’ve already made strides in that direction and met with Mike Vrabel.
According to a report by Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the meeting went quite well.
And while Vrabel is still slated to interview with other teams, such as the Chicago Bears or New Orleans Saints, things went pretty well in the Big Apple.
“I’d expect Vrabel to meet with more teams next week, including the Bears and Saints, but I was told both the Jets and Vrabel felt Friday’s meeting went ‘really, really well,'” Russini said.
Vrabel was shockingly let go after a disappointing season with the Tennessee Titans.
Then, he almost landed the Los Angeles Chargers’ job this past offseason.
That wasn’t the case, so he ended up getting a consulting gig with the Cleveland Browns.
However, he was always expected to be atop multiple teams’ wish lists for their head coaching vacancies.
Vrabel is a culture-builder and a tone-setter who will hold everybody accountable, which might be just what the Jets need.
However, there are also concerns about all the reports involving team owner Woody Johnson, who might not allow him to take such a hands-on approach.
Given everything that has transpired over the past couple of years, it’s hard to envision the Jets being the No. 1 team on any coach’s list, but Vrabel does look like a match made in heaven for this organization.
