The Arizona Diamondbacks are lucky to have a retractable roof on Chase Field, especially at this time of year.
Though they weren’t playing outside on Tuesday night, they still were dealing with a shocking weather element.
Prior to their game against the St. Louis Cardinals, the temperature at Chase Field was a sweltering 114 degrees.
Fortunately, it was only 78 degrees inside the ballpark, but for people not at the game, the weather was quite unforgiving.
On Twitter, Bob Nightengale pointed out just how hot it was outside of Chase Field prior to the game between the D-Backs and Cardinals on Tuesday night.
Game-time temperature for #Dbacks–#STLCards
game tonight: 114.It’s 78 degrees inside with the retractable roof.
Considering that Las Vegas has similar balmy summer temperatures, it’ll be quite interesting when the A’s play in Vegas without a roof until their stadium is ready.

Those who live in Arizona are certainly no strangers to the extreme heat that was on display last night.
Still, the temperatures were high at Chase Field during the game between the D-Backs and Cardinals.
Arizona is known for having extreme heatwaves in the summer, and this was no different.
Fortunately, it was nice and cool inside Chase Field, as the roof was closed for the second game of the series between Arizona and St. Louis.
With the roof open, it would have been a completely different story.
Arizona ultimately won Tuesday night’s game by a final score of 3-1, snapping their long five-game losing skid.
But the heat was certainly palpable in the desert last night.
114 degrees at game time is quite shocking, but it’s nothing unheard of in the valley.
One would assume that the roof may be closed again for Wednesday’s series finale between the D-Backs and Cards.
