The Sacramento Kings have struggled as an organization for the past 20 years.
After being very successful in the late 1990s and the early 2000s, the Kings have only made it to the playoffs once since the 2006-2007 season.
While things have been rough for the Kings over the past two decades, there is reason to believe that they are on the upswing.
They didn’t have a record over .500 from 2006-2021, finally hitting that mark in the 2022-2023 season.
Even though they lost in the first round, making it to the playoffs was a massive accomplishment for this team.
The Kings have started to assemble a solid roster, but head coach Mike Brown has been given a lot of credit for the team’s success.
He has led them to a record over .500 for two consecutive seasons, a mark that has seemed unattainable for this team.
Brown is up for a contract extension, as Shams Charania recently highlighted on Twitter.
He reported that the Kings made an offer to him for $27 million in total for three years, but it appears that Brown is looking for an AAV of $10 million.
The Sacramento Kings have made a competitive offer to head coach Mike Brown on a contract extension – three years and $21 million through 2026-27, up to $27 million with bonuses, sources say. So far, no agreement. Brown is believed to be seeking around $10 million annually.

Brown’s asking price would put him in the top six of highest-paid coaches in the league, at least from an AAV perspective.
It will be interesting to see if the Kings are willing to meet his demands given his recent success, or if they will remain firm at their asking price.
For an organization that struggled to gain much traction in the years leading up to Brown taking over, they don’t exactly have a lot of leverage.
