Not so long ago, the New York Jets used the No. 2 pick to get Zach Wilson.
While that seemed like a bit of a reach at the time, the BYU product had a strong final season in college, not to mention the fact that his draft stock rose drastically during his pro day.
However, Wilson was never able to find his footing with the team, either because he wasn’t ready to be thrown into the fire, the offense wasn’t built around him, or he wasn’t as good as expected.
Now, with Aaron Rodgers back to full strength and after yet another year of shortcomings and controversies off the field, the Jets are finally ready to move on from their former first-rounder.
Unfortunately, NFL insider Rich Cimini reports that they won’t get more than a sixth or seventh-round pick in return for Wilson’s services (via Dov Kleiman).
Ouch: The rumors are that #Jets QB Zach Wilson's trade value wouldn't get the Jets more than a 6th or 7th-round pick, per @RichCimini https://t.co/RTt2NK63zO pic.twitter.com/QOomKQEs6c

At that point, one can only wonder whether it’s even worth it to move him.
Perhaps it would be wiser to sign a better veteran backup to Aaron Rodgers and allow Wilson to continue his development behind the future Hall of Famer by keeping him around on the practice squad.
Wilson is still young and did show a couple of flashes every now and then, and learning from one of the best to ever do it could do wonders for him.
If not, it’s hard to envision him even getting another chance to prove his worth in the league, at least not next season.
