Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders are dealing with a tragic situation surrounding now former receiver Henry Ruggs.
Ruggs is charged with DUI resulting in death after a horrific car crash that led to the death of a young woman.
Such situations happen so fast and Ruggs went from preparing for a game to being booked into jail.
The Raiders have to be in shock and Carr was asked about the situation recently.
He stepped up as a leader with a very heartfelt message about love and support.
“He needs people to love him right now … If no one else will do it, I’ll do it.”

Carr comes right out and says he will offer Ruggs love and support, even if no one else will.
The entire statement is powerful because it shows how much Carr is there for Ruggs even in this horrific time.
A True Leader
Carr’s comments continued and a heartbreaking moment occurred when he shared how he is left with thoughts about what he could have done different.

The quarterback mentions he could have been there for Ruggs, even in the middle of the night.
This whole situation is sad from every angle.
A life was lost and plenty others were ruined because of an unnecessary situation.
For the Raiders as a team, they have to be in a state of shock.
Ruggs is the team’s leading receiver this year and was a first-round pick in 2020.
His career was just getting started and now he faces serious jail time.
The team now has to head on the road to take on the New York Giants and try to get the focus back to football.
Carr being such a strong leader should go a long way in keeping some sense of focus on the game.
The Raiders just can’t escape controversy this year and somehow, they remain atop the AFC West.
