Guard Dennis Schroder has become an NBA veteran after 10 years in the league, but he has also been committed to representing his native Germany in international play.
Late last summer, he helped lead Germany to a bronze medal in EuroBasket 2022, and it was a performance that led to him returning to the Los Angeles Lakers after he left the team in the summer of 2021 after a public contract dispute.
Schroder criticized Maxi Kleber, a fellow German who plays for the Dallas Mavericks, after he didn’t play in last year’s EuroBasket, but now he has issued an apology.

Schroder is known as a speedster guard who can attack in the open court, hit from the midrange area and also play some aggressive pressure defense on opposing ball-handlers.
He was the No. 17 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, and he nearly won the Sixth Man of the Year award for the 2019-20 season after averaging 18.9 points a game for a surprising Oklahoma City Thunder team.
This past season, he played a key role for a Lakers team that reached the Western Conference Finals, and after starting for much of the regular season, he graciously accepted a move to the bench after they made a number of midseason trades.
Schroder has now headed north to play for the Toronto Raptors after signing a contract with them this summer, and he will essentially be a replacement for Fred VanVleet, who got a lucrative contract with the Houston Rockets.
The German native will look to get a young and interesting Raptors team back to the playoffs this coming season.
