Roster cut season is nearly upon us.
NFL teams need to get their rosters to 53 players by 4:00 PM EST on August 29th.
Players have a few more days to prove they belong on their respective teams, which goes for veterans and rookies alike.
Jaylon Smith’s standing with the New Orleans Saints could be in jeopardy according to Dennis Allen’s recent comments.
According to USA Today via Pro Football Talk, Allen said, “I like what I’ve seen over the last week or so from the player.”

While Allen gave Smith quick praise, he also indicated that a roster spot is far from guaranteed.
At times, Smith has been viewed as an elite linebacker but has bounced around over the past few seasons.
After four full years with the Dallas Cowboys, Smith was briefly signed by the Green Bay Packers.
He was cut after two games and later signed with the New York Giants for the remainder of 2021 and the entire 2022 season.
The Saints have a lot to work through before the season begins, and Smith is one of the pieces to their puzzle.
Smith’s years of experience could be a driving force for the Saints to keep him around, but that remains to be seen.
He has less than a week to prove to this team that he’s more than capable of earning a roster spot.
After a down year in 2022, they are working tirelessly to get back to their former glory during Drew Brees’ prime.
Derek Carr was brought in to help remedy their offensive woes.
Will their offseason moves aid the Saints in reclaiming the NFC South title?
