The Super Bowl hangover in the NFL is well-documented, in the sense that teams who lose the Super Bowl have the potential to take a step backward the following year, many times even missing the playoffs altogether.
Deebo Samuel of the 49ers was candid in his recent appearance on Up & Adams with Kay Adams, explaining how tough it is to go through this pain for the second time in five years.
“People just say ‘there’s always next year’ but I heard that in 2019 and it took four more years to get where we at,” he said.

The 49ers were favored in the Super Bowl and once again blew a 4th-quarter lead to the Chiefs to eventually lose in overtime, a scarily similar outcome to what happened in 2019.
Samuel posted just three catches for 33 yards in the game, despite receiving a team-high 11 targets.
The 49ers head into an offseason with a lot of things to figure out, namely who will primarily be lining up alongside Samuel at the WR2 spot with Brandon Aiyuk hitting free agency.
Super Bowl standout Jauan Jennings is also hitting free agency, so the 49ers have two major potential holes to fill in their wide receiver room.
San Francisco currently sits around $3.4 million over the salary cap according to Spotrac, so it’ll have to get creative to keep Samuel’s fellow wideouts in town.
It’s tough to hear these comments from Deebo, but he should be commended for his honesty.
He seems in good spirits and it’s great to hear he is already putting the loss behind him and is ready to get back to work.
