The San Francisco 49ers are about to lose their best receiver in Deebo Samuel.
Problems come from Samuel not getting an offer initially from his team.
Now he’s requesting a trade to another team, signaling his end of playing in San Francisco.
This follows the potential of Trey Lance being the starting quarterback in 2022.
However, this shake-up could destroy Lance’s chances for this season.
There are deeper issues between the 49ers and Samuel, which can affect their 2022 season.
Samuel Wants Out Of San Francisco Because They Were Late To Offer Extension
The 49ers haven’t made an offer to extend his contract, leading him to want a trade.

Without them giving him a contract extension like other receivers got in 2022, he might feel slighted by the team.
If he feels insulted by the team, a contract offer now is out of the question for San Francisco.
However, the blame could lie at the feet of Jimmy Garoppolo.
The quarterback is due $25 million for the 2022 season.
That takes a sizeable chunk out of the cap space in San Francisco for contract talks.
The lack of cap space for Samuel’s deal could be the reason for San Francisco not offering a contract immediately.
However, that reasoning is proving fatal, with Samuel wanting out of San Francisco.
Should San Francisco Try To Rectify The Situation With Samuel?
Depending on what their star receiver truly feels about the 49ers, the situation might be beyond repair.
That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t at least attempt to fix their issues with each other.
Samuel is a Swiss Army knife of the San Francisco offense.

A replacement for him would be nearly impossible with everything he’s done for the 49ers.
His skill is unmatched on the field with what we saw in 2021.
He passed for touchdowns, ran for touchdowns, and even had some receiving touchdowns.
No other NFL player can currently do all those things in one season.
That is the reason San Francisco needs to work things out with Samuel.
No matter how many draft picks they get for him, he’s a one-of-a-kind player in the NFL.
However, they might trade him if he refuses to play again for the team.
What Is Samuel’s Trade Value If 49ers Can’t Work Things Out?
2022 saw many elite receivers get traded and get new contracts.
However, some of those trades weren’t as expensive as people thought they should be.
Davante Adams, a top-five receiver, was traded for two draft picks.
Tyreek Hill, who was below Adams in most statistics, netted the Chiefs five draft picks.
So what should Samuel net the 49ers in any trade talks they make for their star receiver?
Two first-round picks aren’t out of the question when dealing with Samuel.
But the 49ers need more than just two first-rounders if they want to rebuild in the wake of his absence.
He’s worth at least two more draft picks, with at least one coming in the second round.
Right now, three teams want Samuel.
We might find out soon which team snags him, landing themselves the best all-round receiver in the NFL.
