After several years of mostly substandard play, New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has been benched.
Jones is under contract for two more seasons after this one after being given a four-year, $160 million deal in March 2023, but there is real speculation that he has played his last game for New York.
He recently made a public statement about his situation with the team, in which he referred to his time with it in the past tense.
“The opportunity to play for the New York Giants was truly a dream come true,” Jones said, via Giants Videos. “… I take full responsibility for my part in not bringing more wins.”

In the press conference, Jones sounded like a man who knows he’s on his way out.
When the Giants took him with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, there was hope he could become their next franchise quarterback and a worthy successor to Eli Manning, who played his final season that year.
Jones threw for 3,027 yards and 24 touchdowns as a rookie, but he has never really been able to duplicate, let alone build on, that type of production.
In 10 games this season, he has 2,070 passing yards, eight touchdown passes, seven interceptions and a 63.3 percent pass completion rate.
Tommy DeVito, a New Jersey native who had a brief moment in the sun late last season after Jones tore his ACL, will start under center for the Giants, at least for now.
At 2-8, the Giants have the worst record in the NFC, which has led their fans to again dream of adding a potential franchise signal-caller, this time in the 2025 NFL Draft.
