Now more than ever, the National Football League has become a passer’s league.
That means that teams without a top-notch quarterback will have a tough time competing, regardless of how good the rest of the team is.
With that in mind, former NFL QB Dan Orlovsky shared his list of the top five quarterbacks in the game right now (via First Take).
.@danorlovsky7's top five NFL QBs right now ?
1. Josh Allen
2. Aaron Rodgers
3. Sam Darnold
4. Kyler Murray
5. Geno Smith pic.twitter.com/hhqXerFEC2— First Take (@FirstTake) September 26, 2024
Surprisingly, he had Geno Smith at No. 5.
The Seattle Seahawks star was once an afterthought, but he turned the page since he arrived at Lumen Field, and his connection with DK Metcalf is currently one of the deadliest in the game.
Kyler Murray’s hot start to the season has him at No. 4.
Murray’s talent was never doubted, but there were worrisome reports about his work ethic, which is why it’s been so refreshing to see him lead on and off the field these past three weeks.
Sam Darnold got the nod at No. 3.
Darnold is playing for his fourth team in five years, but he’s finally looking like the star scouts thought he’d be when he first came out of USC, leading the Minnesota Vikings to a perfect 3-0 start to the season.
Then, Orlovsky went with Aaron Rodgers.
Many questioned if the veteran signal-caller could be at his best after a long injury layoff, but he’s got the New York Jets’ offense looking much better this time around.
Unsurprisingly, he’s got Josh Allen at the top.
Allen hasn’t needed a clear-cut WR1 to lead the league in multiple categories and, more importantly, he’s finally taking great care of the football.
