The Detroit Lions have the best record in the NFC, and they’re tied for the best record in the league overall.
They’ve already secured a playoff spot, and they’re now looking to do the same with a first-round bye.
Of course, that means they cannot take their foot off the gas in the final stretch of the season.
That also means they’re now expected to be the team to beat; they’re no longer underdogs.
With that in mind, head coach Dan Campbell had one simple word to describe their record so far: Motivating (via Brad Galli).
Dan Campbell said it is “motivating” for the Lions to be 12-1, still chasing the No. 1 seed.
“Nobody’s losing. So we’re going,” he said. “We do well with pressure, and it’s the right kind of friction and stress that we need.”

Campbell knows that there are now steep expectations for this group, so they will need to be on point.
The Philadelphia Eagles are currently breathing down their necks to pursue the NFC’s best record.
The Lions’ only loss came at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It was a Week 2 loss in a postseason rematch vs. the very same team they had beaten months ago in the playoffs.
They’ve starred in some close games and even overcame one in which Jared Goff threw five interceptions.
Other than that, they have pretty much crushed their opposition.
The Lions have the most explosive offense in the game, and it’s not even close.
Their tandem of running backs finds the endzone multiple times per game, and with Goff mostly taking care of the football, there’s no defense they can’t slash through.
