The Detroit Lions are playing for much more than just themselves.
The city of Detroit has gone through a lot, financially and sports-wise.
Yet the fans have never shied away from their unwavering support of the organization.
That’s why head coach Dan Campbell knows it’s time to pay them back.
Talking to the media ahead of their game vs. the Washington Commanders, coach Campbell called Lions fans a ‘sleeping giant,’ adding that they were the only franchise in the city that hadn’t had much success in the past (via Brad Galli):
“This is a sleeping giant for football. The Pistons have had success. Red Wings have had success. But the Lions have never had success and just to be able to unlock everything,” he said.

Of course, it will be easier said than done, but this Lions team has everything they need to get to the mountaintop.
More than that, this could also be their last chance to win the whole thing, at least for the time being.
Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn are aggressively pursuing head coaching opportunities, and losing their top two assistant coaches could be detrimental to this team.
The Commanders won’t be an easy team to get past.
Then again, the Lions have also routinely dominated teams this season.
They’ve proven to be the best team in the league when they’re at their best.
They know that they’re playing not only for themselves but also for the thousands of fans who have supported them through thick and thin.
