The Los Angeles Lakers’ young sharpshooter Dalton Knecht has been through a whirlwind few days that would make anyone’s head spin.
Just when it seemed he was headed to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Mark Williams, the trade collapsed after Williams failed his physical.
The timing couldn’t have been more bizarre, coming right on the heels of the Lakers’ landscape-shifting move to acquire Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis.
The failed trade left Knecht in limbo, even forcing him to miss the Lakers’ matchup against the Utah Jazz.
But now that he’s back in purple and gold, Knecht is embracing the unique opportunity ahead of him, as he shared with ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
“It’s strange. I’m one of the few people that’s ever been traded and then come back… I had AD, Bron and now I’m with Luka and Bron. So, it’s crazy. I get to learn from a lot of greats,” Knecht said, as Legion Hoops shared on X.

While Charlotte might have offered more playing time for the developing prospect, Knecht’s situation in Los Angeles has taken an interesting turn.
The Lakers didn’t stop at the Doncic trade, also bringing in veteran center Alex Len to bolster their frontcourt.
Though Knecht showed early promise in his rookie campaign, his minutes have dwindled under head coach JJ Redick as other players have stepped into larger roles.
Still, there’s a silver lining to staying with the Lakers.
How many young players get the chance to learn from both LeBron James and Luka Doncic simultaneously?
Even with reduced playing time, Knecht finds himself in a unique position to absorb knowledge from two of the game’s greatest minds.
For a rookie finding his way in the NBA, that kind of experience might prove invaluable, even if it means fewer minutes on the court.
