The Dallas Cowboys could find themselves in a difficult situation ahead of training camp.
There have been many eyes on this roster throughout the offseason, especially given their disappointing finish in the playoffs last season.
While a lot of attention has been focused on skill-position players and Dak Prescott, a recent report shines a light on a different team member.
According to Adam Schefter, Zack Martin could not show up to training camp amid reports of unhappiness with his contract.
Cowboys’ six-time All-Pro guard and team captain Zack Martin is considering not reporting to training camp due to his unhappiness with his contract and the team’s lack of interest in restructuring it, per sources. As Schefter points out, it appears that the Cowboys are also unwilling to work on this contract, another potential reason for his concerns.
Martin plays offensive guard and is tasked with protecting Prescott on the line, as well as supporting the rushing game.
Despite being a six-time member of the All-Pro first-team, Schefter reported that Martin makes at least $7 million less than other elite players at the position across the league.
This could put the Cowboys in a difficult position, especially if Martin doesn’t report for an extended period.
Being that there are increased eyes on the Cowboys this season, not having Martin on the line could be a serious detriment.
Prescott is under immense pressure to succeed, and without Martin, he could be under even greater pressure from opposing defenses.
This is a developing story, as it is the first time that Martin’s situation has come to light.
As more details are revealed, fans will gain more insight into the organization, finding out what will happen with the team moving forward.
