Dallas Cowboys fans were hoping their team would make a blockbuster deal that would salvage what is left of its playoff hopes, but the NFL trade deadline came and went with it making just one minor move.
The Cowboys sent a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the Carolina Panthers for Jonathan Mingo, a wide receiver who has just 12 catches for 121 yards in nine games this season, plus a seventh-round pick.
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said the team is still working on getting Mingo onboarded for the upcoming game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“We’re still trying to see if we can get some packages for him for (Sunday’s) game. He’s a guy that can help us this year as well, but certainly the future was a big part of our decision to go get him,” Jones said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic.

Mingo may not make much of an impact, and may not become the legitimate No. 2 wideout Dallas needs next to All-Pro CeeDee Lamb.
He was a second-round draft pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and posted 43 catches for 418 yards and no touchdowns as a rookie.
It looks like, based on Jones’ comments, Dallas is hoping to develop him into a legitimate contributor in the years to come.
The Cowboys are 3-5 and will be without starting quarterback Dak Prescott for the next several weeks due to a hamstring injury he suffered in a Week 9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
Prescott could be placed on injured reserve and may need surgery, which would seriously jeopardize his chances of coming back at all this season.
Many were skeptical that the Cowboys would be a very good team when the season started, but it is now looking like they are well on the way to missing the playoffs, especially given how tough their remaining schedule is.
