The Washington Commanders hope that the 2023 NFL season will be the year the storied franchise can finally turn things around, with the team now officially under new ownership and able to start fresh.
Although the Commanders aren’t expected to be a significant threat in the NFC, as they play in arguably the toughest division in the league in the NFC East with the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, and New York Giants, Washington might still be able to make some noise in 2023.
Unfortunately, things aren’t trending in the right direction for the Commanders right now, with arguably the team’s best player dealing with a toe injury that might keep him sidelined for the season opener against the Arizona Cardinals.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Commanders star wide receiver Terry McLaurin suffered a toe injury on Monday, and it could be an injury that takes weeks to bounce back from, putting his Week 1 status in doubt moving forward.

McLaurin is coming off his best season yet with the Commanders, as he earned his first Pro Bowl selection for his efforts during the 2022 campaign after racking up some impressive stats in the nation’s capital.
The 27-year-old veteran wide receiver caught 77 passes for a career-high 1,191 yards and five touchdowns.
If the Commanders hope to have any success on the offensive side of the football, especially with second-year quarterback Sam Howell expected to be the Week 1 starter, McLaurin will need to be healthy and productive.
Although the Commanders have a few talented players on offense, like Brian Robinson Jr., Antonio Gibson, and Jahan Dotson, it’s McLaurin that gives this team a shot to be a force to be reckoned with offensively.
