The Indianapolis Colts are 9-6 and trying to hang on in the AFC playoff race.
They can still win the AFC South as well and should have a good shot with remaining games against the Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars.
But the team received awful news Tuesday in that Carson Wentz, who is unvaccinated, is heading to the COVID list.
With Carson Wentz out Sunday, Indy’s playoff hopes now figure to rest with QB Sam Ehlinger. https://t.co/Kap2JlIZk9

Fans are still waiting to hear if Wentz tested positive or if he is just a close contact.
This comes at a time when the CDC has changed quarantine guidelines for asymptomatic individuals.
For now, the Colts are without Wentz on Sunday.
That leaves Sam Ehlinger in line for the biggest game of his football career this weekend.
However, one Colts beat reporter says the team may be considering another option.
Colts need to call Philip Rivers. Have heard it's being discussed.

Philip Rivers spent 2021 coaching high school football after a nice 2020 campaign with the Colts.
He knows the offense and could step right in.
Should both sides make it happen?
A Nice Insurance Option
It is rare for a team to be in this situation.
The Colts need a quarterback on short notice and their 2020 starter just so happens to be available.
The right dollar amount would not be the concern here.
Instead, the Colts would need to make sure that Rivers is still in good enough shape to show up and start an NFL game.
Then there is the question of what would happen if he lights it up.
Would he keep the job over Wentz?
This is such a unique situation and there are countless questions when bringing up Rivers’ name.
His return to help get the Colts back to the postseason would be quite the story and at this point the Colts have nothing to lose by at least making the call.
The NFL legend could also get one final giant paycheck before officially calling it a career.
