The Indianapolis Colts might have their quarterback for the future in Anthony Richardson, but that doesn’t mean they’ll just forget about the past.
They haven’t had a good QB situation since Andrew Luck shockingly announced his retirement before the start of the 2019 NFL season, and even though he’s been removed from the game for that long, he’s been subject to multiple rumors throughout the years.
That’s why Colts owner Jim Irsay wants to put the word out there that they will pursue discipline if they find out any team contacts Luck about a potential comeback.
This is a reference to a mention of the Commanders reaching out in 2022 to a third party to assess Andrew Luck’s interest in coming out of retirement, per @john_keim. It obviously went nowhere. He’s done playing.
But the Colts own his rights and might pursue it, I’m told. https://t.co/WRaGRrIzqw

Notably, Irsay’s tweet may have come as a response to an ESPN report that stated that the Washington Commanders actually wanted to pursue Luck in 2022.
The Colts still hold the rights to Luck’s contract, so any team looking to acquire him would have to give them something in compensation, just like it happens with every other player.
The Commanders reportedly wanted to try and convince him to come out of retirement, but they ended up trading for Carson Wentz instead.
Luck is 33 years old already and hasn’t played any sort of competitive football in years now, so a comeback doesn’t seem likely at this point.
But as unlikely as it may seem, the Colts still have every right to get compensation if that happens.
He’ll go down as one of the biggest ‘what ifs’ in NFL history, and it was such a shame to see him walk away from the game so early after suffering so many injuries.
