Colts Could Make Big Move At Trade Deadline

The Indianapolis Colts have shocked the world so far by getting off to a dominant 6-1 start behind the league’s highest-scoring offense at 33.1 points per game.

With the NFL’s best record and an explosive offense leading the way, one insider recently predicted that a big move on the other side of the ball would be ideal for the Colts at the trade deadline.

Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz shared on X that the Colts are being viewed as a team to watch around the league ahead of the deadline, adding that their focus is on adding a playmaker on defense.

Indy has experimented with in-season free agent signings and even players coming out of retirement, but targeting a real difference-maker for DC Lou Anarumo is something to watch,” Schultz posted on X.

Schultz stopped short of listing any specific names that the Colts could be targeting, but when you think of proven playmakers, your mind goes straight to somebody like Trey Hendrickson, Maxx Crosby, or Quinnen Williams.

Of those names, Hendrickson would conceivably be the most realistic target after his long-winding public battle with the Cincinnati Bengals for a new long-term contract, which he still hasn’t gotten.

The argument against trading him would be that new quarterback Joe Flacco has shown enough so far to prove that this doesn’t have to be a lost season for Cincinnati, which is sitting at 3-4 and could get Joe Burrow back before the playoffs if the Bengals can stay in contention.

Crosby and Williams are locked in with their respective teams, so it would be costly and unlikely to pry them away, but if the Colts want to go big-game hunting, they can certainly find somebody who would make sense in defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo’s system.
