The Indianapolis Colts have a full rotation at running back.
Jonathan Taylor will be their primary option in the backfield after rushing for a league-best 1,811 yards and 18 touchdowns last season.
Backing him up will be Nyheim Hines, who had 276 yards and two touchdowns in 2021.
However, the Colts added another weapon behind quarterback Matt Ryan by signing Phillip Lindsay.
The Colorado native played for the Denver Broncos from 2018 to 2020.
Last season, he suited up for the Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins.
He started his career strong with consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons.
Unfortunately, a toe injury started his decline.
Last season, Lindsay had 209 total yards and a touchdown for Houston and Miami.
The Colts hope that the 27-year-old running back will regain his explosive form.
If he does, Indianapolis will be difficult to beat.
But The Athletic’s Stephen Holder revealed Lindsay’s specific role with the team that barely missed the 2021 postseason.
Regarding the Colts’ signing of former Broncos 1,000-yard rusher Phillip Lindsay, here’s what matters: Lindsay will need to be a factor on special teams to make the roster/be active on game days. It was not playing on special teams that led to Marlon Mack’s inactivity last season

Holder tweeted, “Regarding the Colts’ signing of former Broncos 1,000-yard rusher Phillip Lindsay, here’s what matters: Lindsay will need to be a factor on special teams to make the roster/be active on game days. It was not playing on special teams that led to Marlon Mack’s inactivity last season.”
Lindsay Could Be An Asset On Special Teams
Taylor will already receive most of the handoffs from Ryan.
Meanwhile, Hines will give him time to rest, especially on third-and-long situations.
As those two players cover their backfield rotation, Lindsay can be a difference-maker through kick and punt returns.
Regaining the burst of speed he manifested early in his career makes him a menace to deal with.
Breaking big gains or scoring touchdowns will help the Colts avoid the collapse that happened to them last year.
