The San Francisco 49ers are dangerously close to falling out of the playoff hunt.
At 6-8, it would take a miracle for them to make the playoffs at this point, especially since they’re in last place in the NFC West.
They were the preseason favorites to win the Super Bowl, which seems unlikely to happen at this point in the season.
With that in mind, the 49ers could already be thinking about the offseason, as they’ll be faced with a difficult decision.
Brock Purdy is still on his rookie deal, which has been great for the 49ers to try and acquire top-end talent.
Their acquisitions haven’t gone as well as they’d like, and Purdy is said to be looking for a contract extension after the 2024 season.
Rumor is that Purdy could get at least $55 million per year, a shocking number to some analysts.
In a recent conversation via “The Volume” on X, Colin Cowherd said, “I could never pay Brock Purdy $55 million.”

Cowherd doesn’t trust Purdy to get the job done in the long-run and doesn’t think the 49ers should invest that kind of money in him.
The New York Giants paid Daniel Jones to be their quarterback of the future, but he didn’t last long with the organization before being shown the door.
Could the 49ers look at a move like that and get cold feet about Purdy, the former Mr. Irrelevant?
Only time will tell what’s next for this team, a roster that was supposed to compete this year.
