The Boston Celtics may look like championship contenders this year but they really are not, according to Colin Cowherd.
On Wednesday’s episode of his show, Cowherd spoke about the Celtics and how he doesn’t trust them nor think they have what it takes to earn a title this year.
Comparing them to the Buffalo Bills or certain past iterations of the Sacramento Kings, Cowherd said that the team looks great on paper and will rack up big wins but still won’t win a championship.
He also added that this is the year they have to go all the way because if they don’t make it work this season, things will only get harder in the future.
“I got one trip to the Finals where they had a lead and blew it and no trophies. They are becoming the Buffalo Bills,” Cowherd said.

Cowherd praised the team for their recent massive win over the Golden State Warriors, but he doesn’t think that’s indicative of their championship potential.
There are many reasons for that.
He mentioned how weak the Eastern Conference is and how much that has inflated Boston’s record.
He also brought up the fact that Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets once again seem unstoppable.
Over the last week, Jokic scored wins over two of the best defensive players in the league: Anthony Davis and Draymond Green.
Additionally, Cowherd mentioned that Kristaps Porzingis has a history of getting injured and Jrue Holiday is only getting older.
Next year, Joel Embiid will be back and other Eastern Conference teams will make adjustments so they can be more competitive.
That means that Boston has a slim window to reach the Finals and win a championship.
They have come close for a few years and have always fallen short.
If they don’t do it this year, Cowherd believes they will go down in history with the Bills, Kings, and other sports franchises as a group that got close, but not close enough.
