The Juan Soto sweepstakes finally has an ending as the superstar free agent signed a 15-year deal worth $765 million with the New York Mets.
After weeks of rumors and predictions on where Soto would sign, the Mets’ billionaire owner Steve Cohen was able to claim this off-season’s top prize.
The Soto contract is the highest in Major League Baseball history, passing the previous highest contract that was given to Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers last year worth $700 million.
Colin Cowherd revealed his thoughts on what the Soto contract means for the sport of baseball.
“You know what, it’s actually great for baseball, it keeps the top seven to eight players in New York, L.A, and Philly,” Cowherd said via Herd w/Colin Cowherd on ‘X.’
"It was a great day for baseball. Is it better off going to Minnesota and they can't afford anyone around him?"

Cowherd says that the Soto contract is great for baseball and his reasoning revolves around the best players playing for big market teams to keep the ratings high.
The 2024 postseason saw the highest ratings in a long time, and Cowherd says this is because of the stacked rosters of the big market teams.
Soto stayed in the state of New York but switched teams after playing his first season with the New York Yankees in 2024.
While Cowherd believes the contract is great for baseball in general, the fans of smaller market teams may have different opinions on these stacked rosters forming in the MLB.
It will be interesting to see the different opinions and analysis of the Soto deal as people get some time to collect their thoughts after the big news.
