After losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime in the Super Bowl back in February, the consensus seemed to be that the San Francisco 49ers were on the cusp of winning another title in the near future, potentially as soon as the 2024 NFL season.
Unfortunately for the storied franchise, nothing has gone right this season, as costly injuries to star players have made it incredibly tough for this once-dominant squad to compete with the best of the best in the NFC.
Heading into the Week 13 matchup against the Buffalo Bills, the 49ers had an opportunity to make a statement against arguably the best team in the AFC by taking down MVP candidate Josh Allen and his squad on their snowy home field.
With the 49ers having to deal with some harsh weather conditions against a team that thrives in those situations, San Francisco faced long odds of coming out on top on the road.
Ultimately, the Bills crushed the visiting 49ers with relative ease, which resulted in San Francisco losing for the seventh time this season.
FOX Sports host Colin Cowherd said San Francisco has no simple way to get back on track.
“They’re spiraling out of control. There’s no easy fix, they’re not one swing away,” Cowherd said on “The Herd.”

With so much talent on both sides of the football, the 49ers might be able to bounce back with a vengeance next season, as long as they can stay healthy, but they have so many stars who struggle in that department, like Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle and Deebo Samuel.
Only time will tell what is in store for the 49ers, as it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that some drastic changes are made during the offseason.
