The MVP race through Week 5 of the 2025 NFL season remains wide open, with several quarterbacks staking their claim but no clear favorite emerging.
Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, last season’s MVP winner, continues leading most discussions despite a surprising loss to the New England Patriots.
Other contenders are climbing the conversation, most notably Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
Colin Cowherd recently acknowledged the shift in how Prescott is being viewed around the league.
The analyst suggested that if voting happened today, he might lean toward the Cowboys quarterback, though he still ranks Baker Mayfield slightly ahead.
“Dak (Prescott) gone from a little overrated to now, underappreciated. If I had an MVP vote today, I would probably vote Baker Mayfield one and Dak two. This is the best Dak I’ve ever seen,” Cowherd said.

Prescott has quietly built an impressive case through five weeks.
During Dallas’s 37-22 road victory over the New York Jets on Sunday, Cowboys fans inside MetLife Stadium chanted “M-V-P” as he left the field.
Even some of the team’s harshest critics have begun praising his performance this season.
The Cowboys sit at 2-2-1.
Key offensive injuries have also sidelined CeeDee Lamb and rookie guard Tyler Booker.
Despite those challenges, Prescott ranks fifth in completion percentage at 71.3 percent, second in passing yards with 1,356, and tied for third in passing touchdowns with 10.
He’s on pace to surpass last season’s totals when he finished second in MVP voting behind Lamar Jackson, all while playing under rookie head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
If he maintains this level through the coming weeks, the MVP argument will only grow stronger.
