Publicly, the Portland Trail Blazers are stating that they are committed to Damian Lillard and building a competitive team around him.
But rumors also suggest that the franchise’s front office isn’t sure they can pull off the sort of trades that will give Lillard the squad he wants and needs.
Colin Cowherd has seen enough and thinks it’s time the team and Lillard part ways.
He believes that both sides just need to be honest, cut ties, and initiate a trade for Lillard.
“The Blazers have become the stand-up comedian using six-year-old material. Get new stuff,” Cowherd said.

For years now, Lillard has remained steadfast and loyal to his team, which is admirable.
At the same time, the Blazers have been stranded on the outside looking in, never able to make a real impact in the West or reach the Finals.
Right now, the team has several young promising stars and Lillard.
As fun as they might be to watch, this is not the sort of team that can make a strong playoff run.
And the team’s management is not able to do the kinds of maneuvering necessary to grant Lillard a win-now squad.
He wants to win as soon as possible, which is understandable but not possible.
So Cowherd and others are calling for a parting of ways.
The loyalty was nice and commendable but maybe the time has come to throw in the towel and allow both sides to formulate a plan for success without one another.
The Blazers have never been closer to losing Lillard.
