The NBA world was shocked when James Harden called Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey a liar.
It was a huge escalation of the long-simmering standoff between Harden and the team and it made it clear that this situation is about to get a lot worse.
Some people felt that Harden was wrong to use such intense wording about Morey.
But he isn’t the first one.
NBACentral pointed out that Chris Paul also called Morey a liar only a few years ago.
Paul used the insult after being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder after playing for the Houston Rockets under Morey.
Paul claimed that Morey promised he wouldn’t be sent away to another squad just days before he was shipped to his new team.

So it’s now clear that Harden isn’t the first NBA player to be angered by Morey’s treatment.
For some, this will mean that Harden was right to call his boss out.
It’ll surely earn him a bit more support from some fans.
However, Paul’s past comments don’t change the situation between Harden and the Sixers.
They are still at a brutal stalemate and Harden’s choice of words actually only makes that worse.
Why would Morey and his team be inclined to give in to any of Harden’s demands now?
Harden has every right to air his grievance and speak his mind.
But by doing so, he has just complicated his plans to leave the 76ers.
The two players may have been totally correct and perhaps Morey really did lie to both of them.
But that doesn’t put Harden in a better position to be traded.
