The Kansas City Chiefs have nothing to play for in the regular-season finale.
This is exactly how a championship contender should arrive at the final game of the regular season.
They’ve already secured the No. 1 seed in the AFC, and they will have a bye week in the first round of the playoffs.
They will also have a home-field advantage all the way to the Super Bowl.
Nonetheless, that doesn’t mean the season is over.
If anything, it’s just getting started.
With that in mind, the team has decided to sign linebacker Blake Lynch to their practice squad.
In a corresponding move, they’ve had no choice but to terminate the Practice Squad contract of WR Montrell Washington.

Now that nothing is at stake, the Chiefs might decide to rest their starters in the regular season finale.
Moreover, they could also choose to give their divisional rivals a helping hand.
The Denver Broncos must win to get in the playoffs.
But more importantly, if the Broncos get in, the Cincinnati Bengals don’t.
The Bengals got off to a dreadful start to the season, but, just like it’s been the case with Zac Taylor year after year, they’re peaking at the right time.
Joe Burrow is the only active quarterback who has beaten Mahomes in the playoffs, and the Bengals have played very well vs. the Chiefs in the past.
So, while the Broncos won’t necessarily be easy opponents to defeat, they might not pose as much of a threat as the Bengals could.
