The Washington Commanders are a struggling franchise on the cusp of some drastic changes for the better, with longtime owner Daniel Snyder agreeing to sell the team to Josh Harris and his ownership group, including Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson.
Throughout the NFL offseason, all the attention in the nation’s capital regarding this football team has been off the field with Snyder and what will happen with the storied franchise.
With the dust somewhat settling for the Commanders, the attention is turning back to the football field, with this team potentially being better than expected ahead of the 2023 campaign.
One player that will be under the microscope next season in D.C. is former No. 2 overall pick Chase Young, who recently had his fifth-year option declined by the team.
Young will be heading into a prove-it season with the Commanders, as the team hopes he can stay healthy and be the defensive force they know he can be, with the 24-year-old recently seen putting in the work in preparation for training camp, via @wshingtontoday’s Twitter account.

Obviously, if Young wants to secure his long-term future with the Commanders or elsewhere, he’ll need to have a solid season in 2023, and as long as he can stay healthy, that might be very possible.
Along with Young, the pressure will be on head coach Ron Rivera to save his job and prove his worth to the new ownership group while rookie quarterback Sam Howell will likely have the opportunity to start right out of the gate for the Commanders.
