The NFL is filled with young quarterbacks who are said to be the future of their respective organizations.
Just in the past year, players like Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts, Justin Herbert, and Lamar Jackson have all signed massive contract extensions.
This not only ties them to their team for the foreseeable future, but it also gives them a massive amount of money.
While extensions have been handed out liberally over the past year, one young quarterback is still waiting for his deal to get done.
Tua Tagovailoa is still on his rookie deal, and unless something gets done before the season starts, he’ll likely play on that deal throughout the 2024 season.
Chad Johnson and Shannon Sharpe discussed Tagovailoa’s situation in a recent segment of the “Nightcap” show.
Johnson said, “For Dolphins to even be playing this game, and haven’t come to a deal yet, I don’t understand what the issue is. What message are they sending Tua, for him to be having to wait?”

Johnson believes that the Dolphins are doing Tagovailoa an injustice by not giving him a contract to this point.
Time is ticking, and if he doesn’t receive an extension soon, he could be looking for a new job in 2025.
The Dolphins haven’t necessarily given an indication that they’re looking elsewhere, but the fact that they haven’t extended him might be concerning.
It will be interesting to see how the next several months go for the organization, and what contract decisions they will make in the meantime.
