It’s safe to say that the start of the 2023 MLB season has not been what the St. Louis Cardinals or their loyal fans had envisioned.
The team is 5-8 to start the year and they sit at the bottom of the National League Central, a division they won by seven games last season.
However, while some fans are a little anxious about things, others aren’t too worried just yet.
There is still plenty of time left in the season for a turnaround, and there are other teams that haven’t been playing to their potential.
On Twitter, Cardinals writer Joshua Jacobs posted a message to remind fans that it’s still early and that things will get better.
I’m also frustrated that the Cardinals’ season has started off slow. 5-8 is not what I expected from this team at all.
But a friendly reminder…
– Astros are 6-7
– Padres, Dodgers, and Mets are 7-6
– Phillies are 4-9
– Mariners are 5-8It’s early folks #STLCards

What has plagued the Cardinals so far has been their starting pitching.
Their offense too has underperformed, considering the stars that are in the lineup.
After busting out for nine runs on Tuesday in Colorado and following that up with a seven-run outburst on Wednesday, it appeared that the Cardinals offense had overcome its funk.
Thursday, however, they were shut out and defeated by a final of 5-0 in their series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates, who have been playing quite well.
But as Jacobs points out, there are other oddities taking place right now.
The Seattle Mariners are 5-8 to start the year, just as the Cardinals are.
The defending champion Houston Astros are 6-7 while the Philadelphia Phillies are 4-9.
It may not take away from Cardinals fans’ angst, but it is worth remembering that the vast majority of the season has still yet to be played.
