After five innings, Tuesday night had the looks of a game to forget for the St. Louis Cardinals.
After jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, the Colorado Rockies battled back and scored six runs off of Miles Mikolas, chasing him after five innings.
But St. Louis wasn’t done.
They began to chip away in the seventh, ultimately tying things up on Nolan Arenado‘s bases-clearing double.
Nolan Gorman put them ahead in the top of the ninth with a solo home run before Paul Goldschmidt and Tyler O’Neill drove in runs with base hits.
St. Louis held on for a 9-6 win.
After the game, manager Oli Marmol praised his team for their efforts.
“Not just because we won, but we got punched in the mouth, gave up a five-spot in the fifth, and to be able to come back, put up four, especially the way things have been going this week, that shows where these guys are mentally.”

Marmol said he understood the importance of the win, but that equally important was the fact that the Cardinals were able to fight back after being down by four runs.
Marmol was also impressed that the team remained positive after falling behind, especially with the way things have been going.
St. Louis came into Tuesday’s game with a National League-worst 3-7 record.
But Marmol was ultimately pleased with the fact that the team continued to fight through adversity, even when the results weren’t what they wanted, and said that it’s a testament to where they are mentally and who they are as players and people.
The Cardinals won 93 games in 2022 and cruised to their 13th NL Central title.
With the win, they remained four games back of the Milwaukee Brewers, who picked up a win against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
