At this point, it’s clear that the St. Louis Cardinals are not going to be making any noise down the stretch.
With a record of 48-63, they stand above only two teams in the National League, those being the Washington Nationals and Colorado Rockies.
But even with the 2023 season being a lost cause, there could still be reasons to watch the team, as several young prospects, including shortstop Masyn Winn are knocking on the door of the Major Leagues.
On “The Fast Lane,” a local St. Louis sports radio show, Cardinals legend Matt Holliday made a prediction for the rest of the season and the future of the team.

Holliday believes that even though the Cardinals are out of contention, the emergence of players such as Winn could bring a little energy to the club, as young players may see the rest of the season as their opportunity to prove themselves.
The former Cardinals slugger and 2011 World Series champion stated that some youthful energy could ultimately lead to the team playing better baseball down the stretch.
Holliday also offered a hopeful prediction for the Cardinals, reminding fans that they aren’t in the same position as the New York Mets, who have essentially dismantled their team and aren’t looking to compete in 2024.
The Cardinals legend says he expects the Cardinals to bounce back into postseason contention in 2024 and that it will ultimately be interesting to see if some of their young prospects get a chance to prove themselves at the Major League level.
