The St. Louis Cardinals offense has struggled as of late after losing two key bats in Lars Nootbaar and Nolan Gorman.
However, Gorman is expected to be back soon after suffering a back injury.
According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals will be welcoming back their young slugger on Friday night as they begin a three-game series with the defending National League champion Philadelphia Phillies, who eliminated them from the postseason last fall.
Goold revealed this update on Gorman’s recovery via Twitter.
Nolan Gorman is headed back to the #stlcards lineup as soon as Friday in Philly. His absence — and the injuries to two other left-handed bats — are a reminder of why #Cardinals so wanted to find a lefty for their lineup … https://t.co/tvHnumBBMg

While nothing will save the Cardinals’ season at this point, having Gorman back should improve their offense, especially when they face Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola in the final two games.
Gorman has been one of St. Louis’ most reliable bats this season.
The slugger is hitting just .241, but has already hit 24 home runs, driven in 67, and posted an OPS of .815.
With the Cardinals sitting in last place in the NL Central and 16 games below the .500 mark, Gorman has been one of the team’s few bright spots this year.
He broke into the Major Leagues early last season.
This year, he has proven to be a viable piece of the team’s powerful lineup, even slotting in at the No. 3 spot in the team’s batting order on various occasions.
But having him back should give the Cardinals a bit of an offensive boost as they look to play spoiler for the Phillies.
