With the St. Louis Cardinals set to sell at this year’s trade deadline, some have speculated that stars such as Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado could be a part of that.
On Monday, President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak laid out his plan to the media, saying that he intends to sell this year and put a special emphasis on adding pitching.
However, he was asked the question about Goldschmidt and Arenado and whether or not he’d consider trading them.
To nobody’s surprise, Mozeliak squashed that rumor, saying that he had no intention of trading either of the two MVP finalists from last season.
Katie Woo of The Athletic confirmed Mozeliak’s comments on Twitter.

While the Cardinals aren’t going anywhere this season, it appears that they still won’t be getting rid of Goldschmidt and Arenado.
This indicates that the team fully intends to keep its core together and take another shot at competing for a postseason berth in 2024.
The team clearly does not intend to engage in any sort of rebuild, despite how poorly the 2023 season has gone.
These are comments from Mozeliak himself, who confirmed that Goldschmidt and Arenado are part of the plan for the 2024 season.
Goldschmidt is a free agent at the end of next season, while the Cardinals have Arenado locked up through the 2027 season.
St. Louis sits at the bottom of the NL Central with a record of 41-53.
They also are 11 games back of first place.
But it is clear that they intend to be back in contention in 2024.
