When it rains, it pours for the Arizona Cardinals. They can’t seem to catch a break this season, especially with injuries.
Coming off their Week 11 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the Cardinals got an unfortunate injury update on a key player.
“Initial tests revealed that Cardinals RB Emari Demercado suffered a high ankle sprain against the 49ers and now is unlikely to play Sunday vs. the [Jacksonville] Jaguars, per source,” Adam Schefter wrote on X.

A high ankle sprain usually leads to a multiweek absence. Demercado left the game in the second quarter after gaining eight yards on five carries and making two receptions for 12 yards.
In his absence, Arizona turned to Bam Knight, and he had 24 yards and one touchdown in five carries.
The Cardinals could have Trey Benson available against the Jaguars. He’s dealing with a knee injury, but can be activated from injured reserve. If not, Knight and Michael Carter will be the options out of the backfield.
Demercado has 31 carries for 241 rushing yards this season, with one touchdown. While not a star by any means, he seemed to be the best bet to take some pressure off quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
Head coach Jonathan Gannon could be coaching for his job the rest of the way. The team was called for a franchise-record 17 penalties against San Francisco, and it has lost seven of its past eight games. Clearly, quarterback Kyler Murray wasn’t the only person to blame for the team’s year-long woes.
