Several weeks ago, Jim Bowden of The Athletic proposed a radical change for Major League Baseball in terms of expansion, which is being planned at the moment.
The plan included completely scrapping the American League and National League and realigning teams into an Eastern and Western Conference based on their geographical location.
However, there are some potential flaws in Bowden’s plan.
This proposed realignment would have the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs in separate divisions and would also have the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants in the same boat.
On Twitter, a Cardinals fan voiced his displeasure with the situation and discussed the implications of splitting up two of the biggest rivalries in professional sports.
Not one of these dumb plans ever takes the Cardinals-Cubs rivalry into consideration. They basically only proceed from “Let’s get the Mets and Yankees together and who cares from there?” #STLCards https://t.co/efEVSuViSc

The fan pointed out that there may in fact be an East Coast bias, with the New York Yankees and New York Mets being placed in the same division.
And from there, several other rivals are split apart.
The same can be said for the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves.
Granted, it would reunite the Cardinals with one of their old rivals in the Houston Astros, who were once in the NL Central.
It would also give them more opportunities to play against the Kansas City Royals, their cross-state rivals, so there are at the very least some interesting takeaways from this plan.
Still, having several rivals split up into different divisions is going to give people some pause.
The proposed expansion is expected to bring teams to both Nashville and Charlotte.

One of the great and enduring things about baseball is it’s consistency and tradition. Why are they bent on wrecking this. As far as the NY thing. The Yanks will win out and the Mets will be 2nd class citizens with nowhere to go. Back to the “Amazing Mets”.
